Routine tests on blood and other body fluids are the regular function of the Laboratory. This diagnostic information assists your physician with a proper diagnosis and helps determine the treatment process. The Laboratory also maintains all blood bank services.

Physicians on the medical staff of GPH work together to assure that a full range of services is available for patients. They also participate in quality reviews and decision-making to provide clinical treatment for patients in keeping with advances in medical technology. The Medical Staff at GPH provides a balance of primary care and specialty physicians to meet the healthcare needs of the community.

Emergency

In an emergency, GPH provides the immediate care that makes the difference. Our Emergency Department is staffed 24 hours-a-day. The nurse will evaluate your status on arrival, and a physician is available for prompt attention in emergency care.Our Emergency Department is equipped and staffed to handle all medical and accidental emergencies; however, when a patient's condition exceeds our capability to provide a specialist's care, we initiate transfer by helicopter or ambulance to a larger medical center. At GPH, we are always ready to intervene with modern, caring medical treatment to lessen the trauma of an emergency.

Pharmacy

All patient medications ordered by physicians are provided through the hospital's licensed pharmacists. The pharmacists monitor each patient's drug profile for possible drug interactions to avoid additional problems.

Health Information

The patient's complete hospital record is stored in the Health Information Department. It contains all the test results, all the medication received, and a summary of progress while a patient is in the hospital. The Health Information Department works under a Code of Ethics similar to the physician's. Patients can rest assured that their records are kept confidential and are released only with their permission.

Radiology (X-ray)

Our Radiology Department offers a variety of services necessary to assist physicians in making a prompt and accurate diagnosis. We offer general diagnostic and fluoroscopic exams, echocardiograms, ultrasound, and CT scans (computed tomography). We are especially proud of our Mammography Center . The Mammography Center is staffed by female technologists who have special certification and training in Mammography.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy enables many patients to return home with less time spent in the hospital. Physical Therapy uses various treatments as well as therapeutic exercise to return patients to their prior level of independence. Physical therapy services are provided for outpatients as well as inpatients. These services must be ordered by a physician and are performed under the direction of a licensed physical therapist.Our range of services encompasses medical, surgical, neurological, orthopedic and sports.

Outpatient Services

In our fast-paced society, having outpatient services readily available is a necessity, not a luxury. When your physician orders outpatient testing or therapy, have it done close to home through the outpatient services of Bolivar General Hospital . Just have your physician write a prescription for the services you need, and call us for scheduling at your convenience. We will report the results promptly to your attending physician, anywhere.
